Going, Gone          by Dana Boulé

Dana and I spent much of 2006 and all of 2007 at her apartment in Brooklyn, mine in Harlem, Chicky’s studio in London, and my cabin in the Catskills creating this album.

We recorded most of the album at my cabin, going up on the weekends. Sometimes we’d bring others with us, like Ben Hoyumpa to record drums and his wife Trey and their awesome kid, Parker for entertainment. Matt Bixby came up a few times to track guitars.

JB Boulé (aka French Boy), Dana’s husband came along sometimes. While we worked he went for walks in the woods, sat out on the deck, worked on his laptop, and relaxed.

The cabin is like a cross between a bed-and-breakfast and a studio. I call it Working Vacation because it’s such a relaxing environment in which to record. There are no distractions except the beauty of the Catskills countryside, and of course the nightly bonfire.

I recorded the strings and horns in a Tribeca office building. The room sounded incredible. I just hung some packing blankets to control the natural reverb, placed a few mics, and let the players loose.
