When I listen to this album, I know unequivocally Stupid is the best band I ever played in.

Each of the four members came from different musical backgrounds that surprisingly complimented one another perfectly.

Dana grew up playing classical piano before moving into theatre. You can see those influences most clearly in her solo album, Going, Gone. If I remember correctly, she hadn’t played rock on stage before Stupid. I need to check my facts.

Matt’s aesthetic was all free form expressive low-fi punk. He hasn’t owned a guitar tuner in the time I’ve known him. Nonetheless, where perhaps he lacks in technique, he more than makes up for in creativity. His well of brilliant original ideas never appears to run dry. He’s also a painter.

The only music degree having one of us, Ben’s creativity in drumming and arranging, and his ability to beat the hell out of the skins was glue. I’ve played in bands with Ben off and on since the virtual beginning.

After Stupid, Ben and I collaborated on several theme songs, and scores for TV, film, and web.

Pop was always my angle, although I’d played trombone in the school orchestra, and sang in the school choir. I took several music theory courses but I was never much for school. I started several bands, most of them named bluecanoe, and was primary singer and songwriter always.

It was a good band.

About the cover art

A collaboration between Michael Sladek and Trey Hoyumpa, I love it!

Michael photographed each band member and then created the cutouts you see in the diorama on the cover. That’s not a computer generated image. It is a single photograph of the diorama model Michael hand made.
